OUR IMPACT
The past 10 months of the COVID-19 crisis have been extremely challenging. As widely reported, the black community has been disproportionately impacted by the virus due to underlying conditions created by socio-economic disparity. Scores of our community members have died from the COVID-19 virus and hundreds are infected. It’s virtually impossible to ask people to self-isolate in a congested space with no outlet for any respite. Parents and their children are stuck in the house for endless hours on end. W2A, in collaboration with our community partners, are in constant contact with families to ensure they’re getting daily meals and to facilitate access to COVID-19 relief funding; to offer mental health counseling; facilitate information about burial and bereavement programs and assist in any other way needed We hosted conversations based on facts of how COVID-19 can be transmitted and dispelled the myths on stigmatization of infected people. We facilitated religious teachings by Imams and religious scholars to help our community cope with the devastation of the COVID-19 crisis. We assist recovering individuals with temporary housing placements/hotels when they are released from the hospitals and are reluctant to go home or their families are worried that they might infect them. We are very engaged in educating our community on COVID-19 crisis and want to continue to be a trusted and reliable resource for our community.
